BACHELOR OF ARTS (PSYCHOLOGY)

Rationale

Kenya is undergoing a number of socio-political transformations. These are posing a challenge to people’s life-skills. The programme focuses on Applied Psychological strategies to enhance outcomes for clients struggling with a wide range of challenges which may vary from intra-personal to inter-personal issues and systemic problems. A wide variety of theoretical models are taught with an emphasis on eclectic approaches offering integrative themes including neurobiological understanding relevant to psychology. The approaches to problem that this program is aiming at inculcating in the learners are in line with aims of the Kenya’s Vision 2030 and Global goals for Sustainable development.

Philosophy

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. The goals of psychology are to describe, explain, control and predict behaviour. The program is offering both foundation and applied areas of psychology to appropriate educate and train the students for practice.  In a world full of diverse challenges, psychological knowledge and skills will helps clients who are facing diverse challenges not to give up in life but to face and solve the problem.

Objectives

The broad objective of this programme is to produce graduates who have academic and professional skills in psychology.  By the end of the programme the graduates in Bachelor of Arts in psychology should meet the following specific objectives:-

1. Counsel people with different types of psychosocial problems
2. Conduct basic research relevant to their profession.
3. Apply psychological tests for research and diagnostic purposes

Pursue post graduate studies in counseling psychology
